Four of the UK’s largest turf suppliers have merged into one formidable turf organisation where the sharing of resources contributes to greater efficiencies for the overall business customer base.
From 1 January 2016, Q Lawns in Norfolk, Turfland in Lancashire, Spearhead in Cambridgeshire and Stewarts Turf in Midlothian are all part of the Harrowden Turf group.
In 2007, Q Lawns was bought by Harrowden Farms Ltd, a family farming business with land and offices on the outskirts of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. They then acquired Turfland in Lancashire in 2010, followed by Stewarts Turf in Edinburgh in 2012 and most recently Spearhead Turf in Cambridgshire.
The four companies will work together to provide a UK-wide network supplying turf, topsoil, green roofing components and wildflower matting to trade and domestic customers. Sharing skills and experience in procurement, production, sales and most importantly, haulage efficiencies, have meant that the group is growing from strength to strength.
Having different turf production farms strategically placed around the UK means that landscape contractors who work nationwide can be offered competitive and consistent prices. The weather is rarely a problem since if one nursery has an issue, turf can be sourced from one of the other farms and next day delivery can be arranged for almost anywhere in the UK.
