Trellis, Scotland’s national support organisation for therapeutic gardening, is delighted to have been made Brindley Associates charity of the Year for 2016-17.
Trellis, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, supports over 300 therapeutic gardening projects throughout Scotland. They provide information, advice, practical help and training to their network, as well as providing a collective voice for the therapeutic gardening sector.
Brindley Associates have supported Trellis since 2013 and have this year extended their support to mark Trellis’ 10th anniversary. Throughout the year, Brindley staff will benefit projects supported by Trellis by installing an underground bee hive to support bee populations in urban areas and delivering a holistic planting session to promote chemical free pest control. Brindley staff will also fundraise on behalf of Trellis, by taking part in bake sales, dress-down days and a challenging sponsored cycle between Brindley Associates project sites.
Fiona Thackeray, Trellis’ head of operations and development, said: “We’re thrilled to be supported by Brindley Associates and it’s a fantastic way to celebrate reaching this landmark year. Brindley have been loyal supporters for several years and we’re delighted to be their charity of the year. Their support will allow us to continue working with projects all over the country to help thousands of people improve their lives through gardening.”
Joanne Brindley, managing director of Brindley Associates, said: “The team at Trellis do a fantastic job at raising awareness of the importance of horticulture to support health and well-being. As a creative environmental consultancy Brindley are delighted to support Trellis as our 2016-17 Charity of the Year.”
To mark their anniversary, Trellis will be undertaking several fundraising activities throughout the year, including their 10K for 10 Years challenge event which begins on 10th October 2016, in which participants will walk, jog, swim or run 10 kilometres to mark 10 years of the charity’s work. Trellis will also be challenging home bakers to use garden produce in their Grow your cake and eat it! competition which will be judged by celebrity chef, Paul Wedgwood, at the Gardening Scotland event on 4th June 2016.
