Jo Thompson is awarded her first gold medal for a show garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016. Jo Thompson, one of the UK’s leading garden designers, has won a gold medal for The Chelsea Barracks Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016.
The Chelsea Barracks Garden presents a traditional rose garden re-imagined for the 21st Century. It is inspired by the heritage of the Chelsea Barracks site, and by the architecture and landscaping of the new development, which neighbours the Royal Hospital.
Commenting on her win, Jo Thompson said: “I am absolutely thrilled that the team at Chelsea Barracks had faith in the design and idea. This gold medal is a reward for everyone’s hard work and there are a huge number of people who made this happen.
“I am delighted the judges liked the concept of a communal garden that pays tribute to the heritage of the Chelsea Barracks site, while also taking cues from the architecture and landscaping plans for this unique development next door to the Royal Hospital. This has to be my best moment at Chelsea ever!”
This is Jo’s eighth year at RHS Chelsea Flower Show and, while she has won two gold medals at the show in previous years, this is her first gold medal for a show garden.
