Nationwide plant supplier Johnsons Garden Centre Sales, part of the York based Johnsons of Whixley Group, is set to introduce a brand new plant to the market at this yearβs National Plant Show in a bid to scoop gold in the New Plant Awards.
Hosted by the Horticultural Trade Association (HTA) from 21-22 June, the National Plant Show takes place at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry and is the biggest horticultural show for garden centre plant buyers in the UK.
Johnsons of Whixley is hoping to scoop gold for its new plant βGeranium Miss Heidiβ in the showβs New Plant Awards sponsored by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). The plant has been entered into the βHerbaceous Perennialsβ category and will be judged by a panel of industry experts and will also feature in the visitor vote to crown best in show.
Last year Johnsons was awarded a bronze award for its new introduction βBerberis Thunderboltβ, but this year is aiming even higher with Geranium Miss Heidi, which has been grown at Johnsonsβ 150 acre nursery in the Vale of York to ensure it will suit the UK weather conditions.
Mark Reynard, sales manager at Johnsons Garden Centre Sales said: βWeβre really looking forward to unveiling Geranium Miss Heidi to our garden centre customers at this yearβs show. The plant features masses of pink flowers with darker pink veining that continue right through the spring and summer, contrasting beautifully with patterned attractive green foliage, itβs a great one for growing in patio pots or in mixed perennial borders and will have great potential for our amenity customers for use in landscape projects.β
As well as launching a new plant at the show, Johnsons will be showcasing plants from all four of its Plantsman ranges at its stand (98/99). Additionally there will be some exciting news on the launch of a 12 litre tree range from August 2016 and also an extended list of climbing plants available from spring 2017. Customers will also have the opportunity to take advantage of up to 30 exclusive show deals.
Johnsons of Whixley is one of the longest established and largest commercial nursery businesses in Europe, and a trusted supplier of plants and trees to garden centres across the UK. Johnsonsβ plants can be found in the gardens of private homes nationally.
