National Park Authority hosts new exhibition

by | 11 Jul 16 | News

The people and places of the Dales are brought to life in a new exhibition being staged in the Yoredale offices of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority in Bainbridge fromΒ 18 July.

Photographer Guy Carpenter will be showing a selection of his work that highlights the link between the landscape and the people who live and work in it – and it will all be for sale.

Richard Burnett, the authority’s director of Corporate Services, said: β€œThe landscape of this beautiful National Park has been shaped by its inhabitants over thousands of years and these photographs illustrate that link perfectly.

β€œThis is the latest exhibition to be on show in the reception area of our offices and we are always pleased to be able to give artists the chance to showcase what they can do.”

Guy said: β€œThe photos were taken by me over the last couple of years. I grew up in the Dales – Swaledale, specifically – and after living away for over a decade, I moved back in 2014 to pursue my passion of photography.

β€œMy most popular works tend to be local landscapes but, more than just being out on the hills with rocks and sunsets, I like to see the Dales as a landscape shaped by humans.

β€œThe stories of the places and people are what interest me most, so when I go out with my camera I also always carry a notebook and pen, as I like to document the interesting everyday life I see in the Dales. Quite a lot of this exhibition will feature some of the life of the Dales – the people and places.”
