Garden designer Michael John McGarr has yet another award to add to his growing list. Along with his business partner Robert Warnes, the pair have taken home a silver award for their Capability Brown-inspired garden in the Evolution section of this yearβs RHS Tatton Flower Show.
The design and construction duo, who have just re-branded as Warnes McGarr & Co, also took home silver at last yearβs Tatton Show, as well as a gold and best construction awards at this yearβs BBC Gardenersβ World exhibition.
Michael said: βWeβre thrilled to have won a silver award for our evolution garden at Tatton this year. The constant rain in the week leading up to the show meant our team had to absolutely pull out all the stops to get everything finished in time.
βWeβre already planning to create a show garden at RHS Hampton Court next year. Over the last few years, weβve really created our signature look, which pulls in classical naturalistic planting combined with hard architectural geometry for a very contemporary look.β
This yearβs garden is called From hall to home and charts the evolution of the modern garden through the development of stately homes. This year marks the tercentenary of Capability Brownβs birth and this garden is inspired by his legacy and illustrates how his style and influence can still be seen in contemporary garden design today.
From hall to home is sponsored by Derian House Childrenβs Hospice in Chorley, Lancashire. The RHS Tatton Flower Show opened to the public on July 20, until Sunday, July 24.
The design includes a Palladian-inspired arbour, old-style brick paving and steel bowl water features. Planting includes topiary, pleached trees and meadow perennial planting. The classic red brick paving is being donated by Hardscape, with corten steel planters from The Pot company and Palladian pillars from Haddonstone.
Warnes McGarr & Co also won a commendation from the APL awards this year for their outstanding garden design for a residential garden in Hawkley, in the βGardens under Β£20,000β category.
