Constructed in a spiralling shape with a vivid, colourful palette of plants, the garden encapsulates the message of sponsoring charity Perennial, which provides sanctuary for those in chaos within the horticultural community. This garden is sponsored by Perennial, the contractor is Landform while the plant supplier is Hortus Loci.
Q&A with the garden designer, Tom Massey:
What do you anticipate the biggest challenge of the build to be?
We have a really strong team, so Iβm feeling really confident and excited about this garden. The biggest challenge, as ever, will be the planting and ensuring it is looking its best for the show. As there are lots of different species β some of which might be late to bloom, whilst others will have gone over β we may have to make some last-minute substitutions.
What are the stand out feature(s) of the garden?
The central area is surrounded by a screen of towering 5m-tall bamboo β visitors will be able to walk through the garden, experiencing the journey a client of Perennial makes. Two bespoke benches, fabricated by London Stone, will be provided, and a 1.2m-wide Corten steel bowl filled with reflective water.
Are there any new/unique plants visitors should look out for?
There will be an array of flowering perennials on show, including;Β Achillea filipendulina ‘Gold Plate’, Achillea millefolium βTerracotta’, Agastache ‘Blue Fortuneβ, Astrantia major βClaret’, Cirsium rivulare ‘Trevor’s Blue Wonderβ, Crocosmia βLucifer’, Foeniculum vulgare ‘Giant Bronzeβ, Helenium ‘Moerheim Beautyβ, Helianthus x laetiflorus, Hemerocallis ‘Crimson Pirateβ, Hemerocallis fulva, Inula helenium, Scabiosa ‘Chile Pepperβ, Kniphofia uvaria βNobilis’, Phlox paniculata ‘Blue Paradise’, Sanguisorba βTanna’, Veronicastrum virginicum βFascination’.
