Several construction industry organisations are calling for immediate action from the new net zero minister.
The appointment of new secretary of state for energy security and net zero, Claire Mouthinho MP, has prompted the construction sector to put forward a list of priorities.
βMillions are living in energy inefficient homes that are in dire need of retrofitting,β says RIBA president, Simon Allford. βIf we are to address the climate emergency, help households with the cost-of-living crisis, and create new green jobs, we urgently need a well-funded National Retrofit Strategy, with a robust timetable and targets.β
Members of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) are βcommittedβ to βdeliver the decisive and far-reaching action promised by the creation of the DESNez, particularly accelerating progress on energy efficiency and upgrading Britainβs homes,β says UKGBC deputy chief executive, Simon McWhirter.
McWhirter adds that βthe Government needs to re-prioritise net zero to get us back on track to meet our climate commitments and salvage the myriad opportunities of a greener, cleaner future,β in reference to the retrofitting of homes in Britain.
Representatives on behalf of the UK100 will be putting forward additional evidence to the Environmental Audit Committee, as its MPs continue to gather evidence on outdoor and indoor air quality targets.
