The RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) opens its first standalone shop today, in response to the growing demand for houseplants.
Sales of RHS houseplants have risen by 32% in the last three years, with queries to the Society’s website relating to houseplants increasing by 13% this year so far.
RHS The Plant Space, located at Bluewater Shopping Centre, Kent will predominantly stock houseplants, from common varieties to larger specimens, with appropriate caring tools.
The shop will also offer nature oriented homeware and books, and host two in-shop events per month, including talks and demos.
“This new store concept will focus on immersing our customers into the amazing world of houseplants”, says Damian Powell, the RHS’s head of retail. “From easy care to building your own terrarium, our team will be happy to support our customers with selecting the right plant for them.”
The 1,600 sq ft location is a pilot store, with additional locations being considered.
The store’s opening follows the launch of the new RHS indoor flower show for “urban dwellers”.
