The winners of Garden of the Year Award 2023 have been announced by Historic Houses, at an event celebrating the not-for-profitβs 50th Anniversary National AGM in London.
Glenarm Castle Walled Garden, County Antrim in Northern Ireland was voted the winner in a public vote sponsored by Christieβs.
The garden, which dates back to the 1820s, has been restored and replanted by Randal and Aurora Antrim, with the help of garden designer Catherine FitzGerald, to reimagine its original purpose of providing seasonal produce.
Randal and Aurora Antrim, owners and current custodians of Glenarm Castle describe the win as βincredibleβ after originally embarking on the project over 20 years ago when there βwasnβt much more than crumbling walls and a few grazing sheep.β
Now the gardenβs βroomβ structure design offers a space for reflection and tranquility, encompassed by thousands of tulips and other bulbs when the gardens open in spring and a collection of hostas, peonies and roses in June.
While Manor House, Bledlow was awarded the Judgesβ Choice this year, featuring a sculpture garden, an orchard and a water garden.
