Award-winning botanical stylist returns to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, bringing with them Abba, glitterballs and tropical plants.
Two-time RHS medal winner, James Whiting, will make his third appearance at the show with a new exhibit in the Houseplant Studio category.
βVerdant Visionsβ, in collaboration with family history website Findmypast, draws on Whitingβs own passion for sustainable indoor green design.
Taking visitors on a journey of nostalgia through the definitive soundtracks, bold designs and vibrant tropical houseplants of the 1970s.
Whiting says he took inspiration from the βfond memories of the classic houseplantsβ grown by his grandparents, coupled with his parentsβ love of 70s music.
Inspired by a teenager’s bedroom in the 70s, the design will also include coverage of RHS Chelsea from the era.
Whiting comments on the design, saying: βStorytelling with plants, interior design and music are my passion and I hope to reignite a love for staple retro houseplants that are sometimes overlooked in favour of flashy new varieties.β
βPartnering with Findmypast to create this immersive space has opened doors to a wealth of intriguing information and their extensive archive has enabled me to have real insight to this period and re-live moments from the decade of disco, flares and Spider Plants!β
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show will run from 21-25 May 2024. For more information, visit rhs.org.uk/chelsea
