The Landscape Institute (LI) and Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) are calling on the new government to not undervalue the land-based sector when addressing current UK challenges.
In a statement put forward today by the LI, president Carolin GΓΆhler FLI urges new prime minister, Sir Keir Starmer, to address the UKβs challenges with βlandscape-led, nature-based approachesβ in hope of bringing about βpositive social, environmental and economic valueβ.
The statement goes on to request that the new government scale up climate resilient, low carbon development, promote a combined approach to environmental policy and champion the power of nature for health and wellbeing.
All while driving education, awareness and skills for a βgreener and more resilient economyβ.
Meanwhile HTA chief executive, Fran Barnes implores Starmer and his new government to βseize the opportunities that [the] sector can deliver for the UK.β
βToday could and should be a turning point for a greener and growing future,β says Barnes.
She goes on to remind parliament of the urgency in resolving the concerns of border trade, βallowing [our] tree and plant growers to import vital plant products without existing uncertainties and burdensβ.
The LI concludes its statement by saying it looks forward to working with βministers, civil servants, local authorities and other decision makers across all the UK nations, to make a positive difference to people, place and nature.β
