Knoll Gardens mastermind new Miscanthus

by | 23 Sep 24 | Garden Design, News

Knoll Gardens has released a new selection of Miscanthus, titled Sunset, for autumn and is an elegant selection from their trials of Miscanthus Transmorrisonensis.

The trials have gone on for some years and, as a species, Miscanthus Transmorrisonensis is rather different in shape and habit from the more frequently seen Miscanthus Sinensis and its popular garden selections.

Named for its tall stems and gently drooping flowers in varying shades of soft satin pink held high above the foliage, this grass gives the appearance of being both light and airy.

The pretty silver ribbed green foliage gradually turns a deepening mix of dramatic oranges and reds as autumn draws to a close.

Graceful through summer with balletic movement in gentle breezes, as well as a striking autumn display of colour, Miscanthus Sunset works beautifully as a drift or group in borders.

Like all Miscanthus, Sunset is happiest in a full sun position in a range of soils which are not too winter wet.

It is a deciduous grass that will retain its shape for the winter, only requiring the old foliage to be cut to the ground each spring once the worst of the winter weather is past.

It grows to a height between 1.8 and 2.1 meters and is available from Knoll Gardens’ on-site nursery or through its website.
