RHS and The One Show’s garden makeover competition returns

by | 20 Feb 25 | Garden Design, News

A competition which gives winners the opportunity to have their small outdoor space transformed is returning for its second year.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and BBC One’s The Show is bringing back its Pocket Garden Makeover Prize this month.

Entrants could be in with a chance of having their garden, courtyard or balcony revamped by an expert landscaping team up to the value of £6,000.

Garden designer and host of BBC One’s Garden Rescue, Chris Hull, will consult with the winner and design the outdoor space.

“Everyone should be able to benefit from a garden space where they can unwind and connect with nature,” says Hull.

“A well-designed outdoor area, no matter how small, can become a peaceful retreat, a thriving habitat for plants and wildlife, and a source of joy and inspiration.”

Applicants may either enter themselves or nominate someone, and will be asked to provide their creative vision for the space as well as talk about the impact a transformation would have on them or their nominee. The winner will be announced on The One Show in May.

“Small space gardening knows no bounds – think vertical veg planters, colourful climbers for canopy and pot loving trees and shrubs. We’re delighted to help Chris and team transform an as yet unloved outdoor space into a garden this spring,” says RHS chief horticulturist, Guy Barter.

Last year’s winner was Sara Tacchi, who was given the opportunity for her flat’s small and narrow garden in Bristol to become a green oasis.

Entries are open from now until 5pm on Friday 28 February.
