Lee Connelly to inspire thousands of children to get into gardening

by | 25 Feb 25 | News

Children’s gardening educator, Lee Connelly, also known as the Skinny Jean Gardener, wants to get 10,000 children gardening in just one week.

At the Garden Press Event, Connelly revealed he will be partnering with National Garden Gift and Ecofective for his campaign, the 2025 UK School Gardening Tour.

As part of National Children’s Gardening Week, Connelly will be visiting 15 schools in one week, engaging with 30 in total, to host interactive workshops around gardening.

During his talk at the Press Event, Connelly noted “schools are the epicentre” for showcasing the benefits getting into gardening can have on children.

“We can’t just throw equipment into these schools and hope they use it, there’s no direction for schools or the teachers, we need to guide them.”

Applications for the campaign can be found at skinnyjeangardener.co.uk/schools.

“This tour is about showing kids that growing their own plants isn’t just fun, it’s a skill for life. Being part of National Children’s Gardening Week is an incredible opportunity to bring gardening into more schools and homes,” say Connelly.

A nationwide competition, inviting children to share their gardening abilities at home will also run throughout the May half-term, with prizes on offer from the National Garden Gift Scheme.

Set to be released during National Children’s Gardening Week, a five-episode documentary series will capture the campaign journey.
