RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 garden that forms a communication line between people and trees via AI, the Avanade Intelligent Garden, will be relocated to Mayfield Park, Manchester.
Designed by Tom Massey and Je Ahn, the garden features Avanade’s AI technology. Its ‘treetalk’ concept enables park staff to ask how the trees are feeling and what they need. For example, stressed trees can be configured to alert gardeners for a quicker and preventative response.
Danny Williams, estate manager at Mayfield Park is proud of this collaboration and says it will allow them to “harness cutting-edge technology to enhance biodiversity, improve resilience, and ensure Mayfield remains a thriving, beautiful space well into the future.”
Massey says this relocation in a real world setting will “gather valuable data over the longer term.” The outcome of this project is to enable trees to thrive for generations to come, he adds.
Mayfield Park has been described as “the blueprint for the park of the future,” by horticultural specialist, Nigel Dunnett. The Chelsea gardens relocation opens up the possibility of applying this technology in a living urban landscape.
The first city-centre park built in Manchester for 100 years, the biodiverse Mayfield will act as the gardens new home next to Mayfield Depot and the Star & Garter pub.
