Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Anne, has switched on a giant water feature at the newly-landscaped public space, Bazalgette Embankment, a Tideway super sewer project.
Created as part of the super sewer project, the new space is the largest of seven new riverside public parks that have been built along the Thames.Β
Featuring integrated artworks by Glasgow-based international artist, Nathen Coley, Bazalgette Embankment also houses vital infrastructure below ground.Β
One of Coleyβs sculptures includes the Waterwall, which stands at eight meters in height, allowing visitors to paddle whilst the running water noises mask nearby traffic.Β
HRH The Princess Royal switched on the Waterwall, marking the opening moment of Bazalgette Embankment.Β
Andy Mitchell, Tidewayβs chief executive says this space βtransforms a once-underused stretch of the river into a beautiful public space for Londoners to visit and enjoy,β adding:
βIt was an honour to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to mark this important moment.βΒ Β
Other Tideway public parks have already opened, including Nine Elms.Β
The Tideway project has intercepted more than 9m tonnes of storm sewage that would otherwise spilled into the Thames.
