Civil engineering and construction company Eric Wright Group has announced that it has officially started preparatory works on the Earlestown market square transformation.
From summer surveys and trial holes, small excavations will be carried out in order to assess ground conditions before building work begins.
The team will also remove street furniture and trees to prepare the market square for its major incoming upgrade to pave the way for main works to start later in the year.
Improvements to Earlestown include flexible public space featuring a new permanent canopy which will be suitable to host a variety of year-round events.
Paul Corner, senior project manager for Eric Wright Group explains “we are looking forward to working closely with the community and all parties involved as the finer project details are progressed and the project gets off the ground”.
The regeneration scheme has been brought forward by St Helens Borough Council and ECF – a partnership of Homes England, Legal & General and Muse. It has also been supported by £20m from the government’s levelling up fund, alongside the £8m match funding from the council.
