Award-winning garden designer Hugo Bugg has joined the board of trustees at Devon Gardens Trust, which aims to promote and protect the local landscapes.
Bugg says he is βhonouredβ to be supporting the Trust. βI grew up in Devon, and my love of gardens and design began here, helping my dad create a garden from scratch at our family home. β
βI now live here with my own young family and am making a garden of my own, with my children in mind – a place to explore and connect with nature together.β
Since graduating from Falmouth University, Bugg was named RHS Young Designer of the Year and, aged 26, became the youngest designer to win a Gold medal for a large show garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
In 2017, he co-founded Harris Bugg Studio with Charlotte Harris. The practice has won multiple Gold medals at RHS shows, including Best in Show for its Horatioβs Garden display. It is now part of the team that is revamping the Barbican Conservatory in London.
Bugg also works on private gardens and estates across Devon and the South West and is a regular show garden judge and mentor to emerging designers.
Jane Knight, joint chair of Devon Gardens Trust, says Buggβs βdeep understanding of design, planting and landscape management, combined with his strong connection to Devon, will be invaluable to the Trust.
βHis appointment strengthens our shared mission to champion and safeguard the countyβsΒ beautiful and historic designed landscapes.β
