Zayed National Museum opens as “expression of sustainability”

by | 09 Dec 25 | International, Landscape Architecture, News, Sustainability | 1 comment

Zayed National Museum, located within the Saadiyat cultural district in Abu Dhabi, has opened to the public featuring the history of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Designed by Foster + Partners, the building is “an expression of sustainability, with five aerodynamic wings that are an integral part of the environmental system, acting as thermal chimneys and drawing cool air through the public spaces”.

Built for the department of culture and tourism in Abu Dhabi, the museum also features energy-efficient LED lighting and more than 900 different plants and trees.

The Al Masar Garden features traditional water management systems, such as oasis falaj irrigation channels and irrigation techniques.

The museum was designed according to an organic waste management strategy that involves diverting organic waste from landfills, reducing methane emissions, and promoting sustainable waste practices.
