Since Storm Darragh in December 2024, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) continues into the next phase of recovering damaged forests across south-west Wales.
More than 650 hectares of forest were damaged by 90mp winds, with 200 hectares of fallen trees.
The fallen trees have been taken into NTW’s timber harvesting and sales programme in order to use the wood, rather than wasting it.
Every harvesting site is being assessed for wildlife, heritage features and hazards before work can begin.
Ellen Humphrey, senior forest operations officer says “the scale of damage has been devastating.” She adds:
“As a team we are facing a huge task as the amount of windblow is around four times our annual harvesting programme and each new storm is causing more windblow.”
To keep communities and visitors updated, NRW is hosting two drop-in sessions where attendees can ask questions, view maps and see the recovery programme for themselves.
