Survey conducted by online van retailer Vanaways finds that one in 10 tradespeople are more likely to turn to AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini for mental health support than their colleagues.
The findings also highlight a widespread silence among tradespeople with over half lacking the confident to discuss their mental health, while 22% avoid opening up altogether.
For 17% of those asked, loneliness is prevalent in their working lives after working alone everyday.
On top of this, nearly a quarter of workers are surviving on 4-5 hours of rest, while 39% start work before 6am.
Adam Carter, director at Vanaways says “the fact that tradespeople feel more comfortable opening up to AI than a work colleague speaks volumes on the stigma of vulnerability in the industry.”
The company hopes to help remove stigma and encourage tradespeople to speak up in a similar manor to discussing sports or the weather.
As AI grows and infiltrates everyday life, the conversation behind its ethics continues.
