Foster + Partners has revealed its masterplan for a regenerative residential neighbourhood in South Korea’s capital, Seoul.
Following a resident-led voting process, Foster + Partners has been appointed the project, in collaboration with Samsung C&T.
The water-front neighbourhood, Apgujeong District 4, will feature eight residential towers, a mixed-use ground level with leisure and retail spaces accentuated with a significant new park.
Patrick Campbell, head of studio at Foster + Partners, says the designs are “anchored in the existing urban fabric of Seoul.”
The new park will connect the Gangnam District’s Dosan-daero boulevard directly to Han riverbank. “A thoughtfully curated series of green spaces reinforces the developmentβs profound connection to nature,” says Campbell.
The project also aligns with Seoul Plan 2030, which prioritises bottom-up participatory urban planning, which directly incorporates residents’ voices into decision making.
A series of communal amenity spaces will feature within the centre of the neighbourhood, including wellness, educational and leisure facilities.
