plants@work creates mobile biophilic oasis to encourage green offices

by | 06 Jul 26 | News

This year’s National plants@work Week kicks off with its flagship initiative, The Green Journey, to encourage biophilic offices.

From 6 – 10 July 2026, plants@work week encourages the restorative power of nature within the workplace with its mobile installation that brings the message to the doorsteps of businesses.

By converting a large-scale vehicle into a high-impact biophilic oasis, the association aims to prove that nature is not only decorative, but it is also a workplace essential.

Kenneth Freeman, plants@work chairmain, comments on the initiative:

“The Green Journey is our way of showing businesses that biophilic designβ€”the practice of connecting people with natureβ€”is a scientifically proven strategy for improving cognitive function, reducing stress, and fostering a healthier, more productive office culture. When nature works with you, you work better.”

The installation features two distinct zones designed to reset the working mindset. The Relaxing Sanctuary is a quiet, lush decompression chamber filled with plants, while The Potting Lab is an interactive space where workers can engage directly with nature.

Ian Drummond, interior landscaping designer and plants@work ambassador, also comments:

β€œLet’s be honest: the traditional office can feel sterile. The hum of the computer, the endless emails, and the four walls that never seem to change. But this July, we are changing the sceneryβ€”literally. We want to show people that a green office isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about human performance.”

The association hopes to encourage facility managers and human resources professionals to prioritise greening the office as a high-return, long-term investment in staff mental health and organisational culture.
