A full planning application has been submitted for the transformation of Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester.
Plans include delivering a more colourful, vibrant, safer and more inviting Piccadilly Gardens, following public consultation that took place earlier this year.
TheΒ Council and its partners, including Greater Manchester Police and Transport for Greater Manchester,Β recognise thatΒ creating a better Piccadilly Gardens cannot just be about physical improvements but will alsoΒ requireΒ new ways of managing the space to ensure it is maintained as a safe and inviting space.Β
Key elements of the proposal includes additional green space and planting, a new event space, improving accessibility and refreshing the existing children’s play area.
Councillor Garry Bridges comments on the plans:
“Residents have told us loud and clear what they want from Piccadilly Gardens.Β They want the area to look better and feel safer andΒ that’sΒ exactly whatΒ we’reΒ going to deliver.Β There has already been significant investment inΒ the area β including extra police and council resources β with even more on the way.Β Β
“This application will see a much-improved space: Putting the Gardens back in Piccadilly Gardens, providingΒ a betterΒ children’s play area andΒ supporting a more inviting placeΒ all round.”Β
Furtherβ―planned improvements to the area aroundβ―Piccadillyβ―Gardensβ―in the coming years willβ―include a multi-million poundβ―investment by Transport for Greater Manchester to create a new, modern transport interchange.β―β―Β
