30 Under 30 – A catch up with Ryan Mills

by | 25 Jan 24 | News, Opinion

A proud member of the inaugural 30 Under 30 alumni way back in 2015 when working as a landscape project manager at idverde UK, Ryan Mills has come a long way since.

The awards are a “great opportunity to be recognised for achievements and support up and coming talents,” says Mills. He was nominated by his manager at the time who felt he would be a great candidate given the progression he had made with the company within such a short period of time.

In the eight years since receiving the 30 Under 30 award, Mills has changed both his career path and his position within the industry. He is now the founder and director of his own landscape architecture and planning consultancy, supporting the public and private sector – Planscape Consultants Ltd. “I have learnt so much, and can’t wait to grow my business,” says Mills.

Having made the decision to start his own business after working in the public sector for over six years and then coming back into the private sector to work for AECOM as green infrastructure lead, Mills says: “I knew I was ready, and things fell into place which meant it was now or never!”

Mills is now enjoying the challenge, taking charge and responsibility for all areas of the business, including client relations, finances, projects, marketing and business development.

“The majority of my career has been focused on landscape planning, supporting local planning authorities with the development of their local plan evidence base, whilst also providing expert landscape and green infrastructure advise on planning applications,” says Mills.

Having also been involved in a number of public realm schemes, as well as nationally significant infrastructure projects, Mills is now very much focused on expanding his client base and ensuring a high-quality standard of work.

Mills says that “long term, I would like the business to venture into other areas of the industry with partners and/or employees.”

Looking forward to his new adventure, Mills reflects on his achievements and says that “the 30 Under 30 award is a great recognition for all the hard work you have done and will give you space to network and expand your knowledge even more.”
