Pro Landscaper’s own FutureScape event was a huge success, with around 1,500 visitors and over 150 stands. The sixteen seminars were equally as popular, with talks from industry leaders and debates focusing on the hottest topics in the landscaping sector.
The most-anticipated seminar of the day was Let’s Hear it Live, a real-time interview with Ann-Marie Powell, conducted by Jim Wilkinson.
Ann-Marie is a well-loved personality in the sector, and delegates were both enlightened and hugely entertained by musings on her career – beginning with time she spent travelling the globe, falling in love with gardens during her youth. From there, she discussed her first experience of working in TV on Garden Doctors, a job she went for, according to her, primarily because of her admiration of Dan Pearson.
She subsequently brought delegates up to date, talking about her current landscaping practice, that she’d returned to in her early 30s. She is currently involved in 13 projects (ranging in value from £70,000 to just under £1 million), is talking to a publisher about a possible book, and would like to get back into TV if the right project came along.
In her words: “People think I’m a bit mad, and I do think life’s to have fun. But I’m meticulous, and as engaged as the client is. You’ve just got to put your back into it, haven’t you?”
