A winner’s perspective. Why enter Pro Landscaper’s 30 Under 30: The Next Generation awards?

The Pro Landscaper 30U30: The Next Generation initiative has been running since 2015, and has seen 180 winners of this prestigious award. It’s helped propel them into the landscaping limelight, with most of the winners going on to bigger and better things since collecting their award.

It is the only industry search for the most impressive young people in landscaping, and it shines a spotlight on the future of landscaping.

Entries come from a variety of sectors within the industry – from sales to arboriculture, construction to design, or maintenance to landscape architecture.

Rosie Mayer, a senior designer and bespoke design specialist at Jupiter Play & Leisure, was one of our winners last year (November 2020).

We asked Rosie about her experience winning 30U30: The Next Generation, and what it did for her career.

How did it feel to win 30U30: The Next Generation?

“Initially I was shocked. The application happened quickly so I didn’t think much of it at the time or thought I’d be in contention. When I found out I was working from home at the time, so I had a little happy dance and was able to share the good news with my partner.

“After it had settled in, I received an email from the team at Eljays44 who really put the award into perspective; pointing out that it was a really tough year and how it is even more important to recognise and reward the next generation. So, because of that it felt even more of an honour. It made me feel valuable to not only my small world but the wider community too. I’ve always been very passionate about my generation and younger generations, who regularly get over-looked and criticised, so seeing my other fellow awardees (especially the women) I felt incredibly proud!”

How did winning this award change anything within your career?

“Winning this award changed my perception of myself, I regularly get imposter syndrome being in a senior position under the age of 30, now I feel more confident in situations I feel out of my comfort zone. This award has shown me I can celebrate my knowledge, skills and talent!

“I present proposals to clients quite often and have featured in Jupiter Play’s webinar series, I feel the award adds to my level of experience and knowledge and justifies my involvement.”

Why should someone enter the 30U30: The Next Generation Awards?

“The award is not only a personal achievement, but also an acknowledgement of all the people that have supported you, mentored you and given you their time to your development. For me I have an incredible team to thank for helping me get where I am today. They were all really happy for me – it’s just a great boost for you but also your company.”
