Andy Sturgeon – Making the modern garden

On Friday 6th of September Andy Sturgeon mesmerised some of West Dean College’s course members with examples of his work.

Giving them an insight into his design process, he talked them through various projects explaining the inspiration behind the design of the space as well as some garden design tips and tricks.
Among the projects was his recent RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden for which he won Best in Show. He also reflected on some past show gardens, including his RHS Chelsea Flower Show garden from 2005 which secured him his very first Gold medal. Other projects which Andy reflected on included a private residency which sat on the very edge of the Thames. Andy took inspiration from this setting, introducing curves into the garden which mirror the river.
Held in the opulent Old Library at West Dean College, it was one of hundreds of creative short courses offered by the college.
