Cleve West to give talk ‘Our Plot’ at Kew Gardens

Thursday 6 December 2012 – 7pm

Jodrell Lecture Theatre, Kew Gardens, Kew, Surrey.
Two-time Chelsea Best in Show-winner, Cleve West, discusses his book about his allotment. £5, Friends £4 (0871 231 0847; www.kew.org).

Listen to one of Britain’s top garden designers and true allotmenteer, Cleve West, who heads off to his plot to find peace and contemplate life and nature.

Cleve West is one of Britain’s top garden designers, with seven RHS medals to his name and two successive Best in Show awards at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2011 & 2012.

He is also a true allotmenteer who heads off to his plot to get his hands dirty, find peace and contemplate life and nature. His passion for allotments is matched by his deep concern for sustainability which brings important issues down to ground level. He brings a cornucopia of tips and ideas – a combination of the practical and inspirational.

The talk is based on his first book. Our Plot is a joy to read, humorous and humble, full of practical commonsense, and a belief in the values of community and sustainable living. There is plenty of advice here for plot holders – often of the what-not-to-do sort and written from sorry experience – and plenty of inspiration too in the creative ways that Cleve and his partner Christine make the most of their plot and enjoy the company of their fellow allotmenteers.

This lecture has been generously supported by the Dr.H.Shawdon Charitable Trust.
