The YoungHort initiative which has been set up to promote and showcase young people in the industry will hold their first conference on 7 March at the prestigious RHS Gardens Wisley. YoungHort aims to help encourage more young people to choose a career in horticulture and forge links across the industry with gardens and business looking to recruit talented, passionate and focused horticulturalists of the future.
The conference is principally aimed at anyone under the age of 25 and those who are currently studying horticulture. YooungHort organisers have planned a day of inspirational talks by some of horticultures biggest names such as TV Gardener James Wong, Plantsman and Designer Paul Hervey-Brookes, and Thompson and Morgan’s, Michael Perry amongst others. The day will include an ideas session on how to improve the image of horticulture amongst young people. There will be opportunities for the young people to network with representatives from different sectors of horticulture such as, plant heritage, retail, media and more!
Jack Shilley, Director of YoungHort said ‘I am thrilled with how much support that we have had for the conference day in March, and it will clearly show to the rest of the industry and UK the talent that young horticulturist have and how brilliant the industry really is to get into’.
