Gavin Jones Ltd are celebrating receiving the Grand Award at the BALI National Landscape Awards on Friday 6th December at the prestigious 37th BALI National Landscape Awards. The Awards, which are run annually and recognise excellence in landscape design, construction and maintenance, was held at The Grosvenor House, London and attended by 700 guests.

The Gavin Jones construction team were appointed at the large estate near Virginia water for three and a half years.  Originally, the client appointed Colson Stone Landscape to produce a simple planting scheme but the brief was extended to the whole 30 acre site.  At peak construction times, 60 Gavin Jones staff were employed on various areas of the garden.

Outstanding features included a walled garden, water terrace, restored lakes, mature maze, knot gardens, steps and an extensive system of paths and hard surfaced areas.  The scheme was completed last summer and Gavin Jones are now contracted to maintain the gardens with a permanent team on site.

The adjudication Panel agreed that the garden was deemed ‘perfect in its realisation’, utilising the very highest quality workmanship with a clean finish, creative/sustainable use of materials/recycling and demonstrated excellence in project management.

The judges commented, “This is a massively impressive scheme in which the contractor has demonstrated a wide range of landscape disciplines to an exceptionally high standard. From the design, installation and commissioning of a beautiful tiered water feature that welcomes residents and visitors to the development, to the bespoke stonework designed and cut off-site to exacting tolerances, this scheme is an exemplar of the many skills required of BALI contractors. The hard landscaping elements are softened and enhanced by impressive heavy standard trees, drift planting and areas of grass that aid sustainable water management. A worthy recipient of this year’s Grand Award that showcases the transformative power of exemplary landscaping.”

Commenting on the company’s success, Martyn Mogford, Chairman said: “It’s fantastic for us and for our staff.  Inevitably it’s a team effort and we wouldn’t be able to do it without our clients.  For the business it gives us a massive lift for everyone concerned.  It was a big project and took three years to complete.”

Gavin Jones has an impressive record at the BALI awards; 27 National awards, 9 Principle awards and now their second Grand Award.
