Green light for GoLandscape as official launch kick-starts nationwide initiative

On Monday 19 March 2018, BALI’s GoLandscape initiative officially launched within the magnificent grounds of RHS Garden Wisley in front of over 75 BALI members, guests and VIP’s from across the industry. The launch event was praised by those in attendance for providing a fascinating and inspirational day of garden tours, presentations and networking and was hosted by industry TV personality and presenter Tommy Walsh and supported by the BALI Chalk Fund.

GoLandscape, which has been piloted by the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) since November 2016, has seen the association trial the initiative at various locales and events across the country, including careers and ex-forces fairs, college talks and a show garden at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in 2017, which was incredibly well received by the general public.

During the pilot stage, BALI recruited a full time education officer, Stephen Ensell, to take the initiative forward, who has since gone on to establish enrichment programmes at two leading colleges, including the recruitment and training of GoLandscape ambassadors in the South of England and Midlands regions, with more coming on-board to help promote and inspire the next generation of landscaping professionals.golandscape

Stephen, who is responsible for taking BALI’s GoLandscape initiative to a national level, said; “The launch was just the start of a whole programme of activity and events we have planned for 2018 and beyond, working with our ambassadors to stimulate and support emerging talent from across the industry, and inspiring new generations of school leavers and college students to take up roles in landscaping.”

He continues: “GoLandscape is now firmly established within the industry, including attaining  national press and we have gained strong support from organisations like the RHS, who are once again working with BALI at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July, with a brand new show garden, designed to promote GoLandscape to industry and to the public. It is imperative that we do our bit to help with the current industry skills shortage and get more people into landscaping. ”

In 2018, BALI also plans to deliver the first GoLandscape masterclasses, which will be delivered by industry product and service suppliers and will be organised with land-based colleges, as well as providing a suite of online resources for career advisors and the launch of a brand new website this spring.
