Graduates given tools to progress at Glendale

Trainees have secured management roles after completing a 12-month programme with national green services company Glendale.

The Glendale Graduate Scheme offers extensive training and work experience to university leavers, providing professional development and equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills required to take up a managerial position.

The programme involves undertaking work placements at contracts delivered across the country, working on a variety of services and specialisms to gain insight into all aspects of the business.

Sophie Coughlan, 23, Matthew Allen, 22 and Anthony Jones, 29, have now secured managerial positions at the company following participation in the scheme.

Sue McGrath, director of human resources at Glendale, said: “It’s vital to nurture young talent so we can add talented people with fresh perspectives to the workforce, which will benefit the industry. Investing time and resources into employees is a priority for Glendale, so that we can continue delivering the highest quality in services to look after the environment for local communities.”

Sophie, an environmental conservation graduate from Oxfordshire, spent time at Glendale’s South East sites and is currently working on the Nature’s Gym contract in Lewisham. She has passed assessments in chainsaw maintenance and received a range of internal training from HR to finance and business development.

Matthew, a wildlife conservation graduate from Lichfield, is currently based at the Solihull arboriculture depot and has developed practical skills while gaining qualifications in tree climbing, felling and maintenance.

Anthony, an environmental resource management graduate from Bognor Regis, worked on contracts in Liverpool, before becoming involved in the utility arboriculture contract in the West Midlands, where he’s now working as a deputy manager.

He said: “Glendale has such a diverse range of contracts all over the country that it gives a real opportunity to experience all aspects of the work the teams do.”

Glendale also operates a management development programme, upskilling staff in preparation for internal promotion to senior positions.

The company is marking its 25th anniversary with a series of events and community engagement projects.
