The Green Party of England and Wales has, today, launched its election campaign with a pledge to protect UK ecosystems.

If elected, the greens will look to introduce a Nature Act, giving UK ecosystems legal rights and protections, enforced by an independent commission.

Alongside this, the party has promised to strengthen Green Belt planning protections to better control urban expansion.

The Green Party took the opportunity to also take aim at Labour’s “timid” plan for government, stating that only a strong Green presence can “push” Labour to be bolder on The Green Party.

With plans to field candidates in every constituency in England and Wales for the upcoming election on 4 July, the party aims to focus its efforts on securing four ‘winnable’ seats.

The greens said the Conservatives were “clearly on their way out”, so will be focusing its campaign on challenging Labour to be ‘bolder’ with its pledges to tackling the climate crisis.

Ms Denyer, Green Party candidate for Bristol Central, says: “The case for change is obvious, but it has to be real change that offers real hope.”

The Green Party is also currently campaigning to accelerate the rollout of renewable energy, focusing on wind and polar power, as well as increasing recycling and reducing plastic waste.
