Hosepipe bans make little difference; study concludes

A joint study carried out by the universities of Edinburgh, Lancaster, Manchester and Southampton found that hosepipe bans do very little to preserve water.  A study of approximately 2000 households across England found 56% never water the garden, no matter what the weather.

It was only less than 20% of households that stated they use hosepipes in the garden. This has led academics to urge water companies to rethink their approach to implementing bans and intervention, something BALI members would surely welcome.
