Jo is designing a fresh garden and a floral marquee exhibit:
- A 12m x 3m Fresh garden for property developers London Square. Points of interest include: cream porcelain floor tiles for a raised seating area (non-slip and not used before at Chelsea); and a bench, designed by Jo, to embrace this space with tendrils that turn and twist through the garden from the seated heart. Jo’s new colour palette for this year’s garden is green and white with hints of pale apricot linking in with a cream coloured marble sculpture by Frederic Chevarin.
- A floral marquee exhibit for Perennial (who are celebrating their 175th anniversary as a charity helping horticulturalists).
Garden Design News:
Sea Gem, Coastal Garden, Camber Beach, near Rye – A Society of Garden Designers 2013 finalist and awards night is on Friday 24th January 2014. Sea Gem is being featured in a new book on garden design and in a Lion TV new gardening show production with Monty Don, ‘Big Ideas, Small Budget’.
Sea Gem, Coastal Garden, Camber Beach, near Rye. The brief was to design a coastal garden at a beach hide-away for a property lawyer, 1hr from central London. Sea Gem is an architect designed house shortlisted for RIBA and RICS design awards. Just 100 foot away from the garden lies eight miles of sandy beach and sea making it popular with film-makers. George Clooney is the latest director to film on the beach. The client wanted privacy from the beach without losing the view out to sea from the house. And he wanted the garden to look good from his study, a glass cube on the roof of the house. The outcome was a garden with curvaceous seating, a sunken fire or barbeque pit, rinsing stations for sandy feet and cedar decking leading to a timber gate. Rope from Chatham Dockyard provides an appropriate nautical boundary fence. The dunes are planted with tough species that will cope with sand and the climate.
Outdoor kitchen and dining space for a Russian client with a home in Knightsbridge
The clients were looking for an outdoor space with a strong modern design to complement their newly renovated Knightsbridge home. They were keen to include elements of a traditional English garden too. Central to the garden is a bespoke cantilevered BBQ, granite clad. Gantry lighting brings theatrical magic to the garden in the evening and means it is a great place to be year round. The design incorporates a special outdoor sound system with speakers positioned around the garden adding to its value as an entertainment space for the owners.
