Joe Perkins wins top accolade at Shenzhen Flower Show

Garden designer Joe Perkins has been honoured with the Award for Horticultural Excellence at this year’s Shenzhen Flower Show.

Perkins’ Shenzhen City Garden – Community of Life focuses on the mangrove forest habitat surrounding Shenzhen and the city itself, which was once a fishing village and is now a modern port.

Whilst highlighting the significance of the city’s coastal location, the garden also showcases the commitment to environmental progression and ecological development.

Perkins adds this latest accolade to a growing list of show garden achievements, having been awarded a Gold medal and Best in Category for his first garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, followed by another Gold in 2022.

Joe Perkins says: “I am thrilled with this achievement. To have been awarded Horticultural Excellence for this garden is the culmination of a lot of hard work and huge thanks go to the whole team for making it happen. It’s not easy designing and installing a show garden remotely but I’m so pleased with the results.

“I am honoured to have been able to draw attention to such a vital and unique habitat as the mangrove forests and I hope this garden further demonstrates how working with natural systems can offer workable solutions to our current environmental crisis.”
