Judging panel returns for 2019 Arbordeck Awards

As the summer hots up, the decking season is in full swing: and so are the Arbordeck Awards, with several proud installers already having submitted their entries to this year’s scheme.

Once again, four expert judges will be on hand to cast their eyes over the best of the UK Trex and Arbordeck softwood timber decks, looking out for the most creative designs, the best use of space, and the highest quality of installation.

Sarah Francis, product marketing manager at Arbor Forest Products returns as head judge, alongside Pro Landscaper Magazine’s managing director, Jim Wilkinson, Trex’s market manager, Alan Hodkinson, and award-winning garden designer Andy Tudbury of Halcyon Days Garden Design.

The four judges have decades of experience of the landscaping industry between them, so they are ideally positioned to spot the very best that UK decking installers have to offer.

Sarah’s focus is on finding a deck that has created a beautiful outdoor space, and where the installer has done something different that the panel has not seen before – the multi-level deck created by last year’s winners, North Spas, certainly fit the bill.

Alan will be examining the installation work itself – looking for whether or not the deck has been correctly installed, and any tricky problem-solving the installer has had to do such as creating clever patterns.

Jim Wilkinson will be keeping a keen eye on the choice of products used and how well they match the surrounding environment – similarly, Andy Tudbury’s focus is on the balanced use of colours, how the deck fits the vernacular, and the originality of the design.

Commenting on the judging panel, Sarah Francis said: “I’m very pleased to be welcoming my fellow judges back to the 2019 Arbordeck Awards. This group has a great understanding of both the design and installation process of creating a beautiful deck, and I’m looking forward to reviewing the entries later this year.”

The Arbordeck Awards are free to enter, with five categories to choose from: Best Small Trex Deck, Best Large Trex Deck, Best Commercial Trex Deck, Best Trex Design Solution and Best Arbordeck Softwood Timber Deck.

Every entry will be automatically submitted for the coveted ‘Deck of the Year’ award, with the winner of this award walking away with a money-can’t-buy trip for two to the US capital, Washington DC, and a visit to the Trex University in West Virginia.

Category winners will receive £250 in high street vouchers, as well as having their work professionally photographed and shared in Pro Landscaper magazine, and the Arbordeck website and social media channels. This year the Arbordeck Awards will reward the deck-owners too – they will receive £50 in high street vouchers.
