Perennial is encouraging people to take part in its new wellbeing survey to better understand the pressures those in the horticulture industry are facing.

The charity hopes it will gain a snapshot into the wellbeing of those working in the industry to develop its own services whilst also informing others of the key issues and challenges.

“The research will enable us to formulate more effective tools and support strategies to enhance wellbeing now and into the future,” says Julia Hayne, Perennial’s director of services. “It’s a further step towards achieving our vision of building better futures for people working in horticulture and their families.”

It succeeds Perennial’s Health & Wellbeing Survey in 2021, which found that an overwhelming majority (85%) of people’s mental wellbeing was poor or below average.

Following this, the dedicated horticulture charity rolled out its mental health first aid kit at work programme, which saw nearly 100 people trained as mental health first aiders across 11 sectors and 48 companies.

This year’s survey, which is anonymous, will run until the end of June and is open to all sectors within horticulture. The results will be analysed and reported on by the University of Exeter and the findings shared with the industry this coming autumn.
