Although the dust has now settled on the Floralies 2016, one image remains ‘live’ in the mind. The Giant ‘Ball’ of laurels on the Bijloke site will always live in the memory.
Daniël and Nele Ost were the designers of this large piece that was displayed in the middle of the Bijloke.
The main supplier of this object was of Jabbeke based Laurica plants, who provided over 660 small plants that we together shaped into one giant ‘ball’ of Laurels. They additionally provided all laurels on the opposite side of our installation.
Large shell of Woven Bamboo
Yann Callaert, general manager at Daniël Ost, commented: “We created a large ‘shell’ of woven bamboo to compliment the Laurels and also created a temporary pond filled with petals of cherry blossom and other green flowers (viburnum, hydrangea). The theme of our installation was ‘East meets West’ so we combined very eastern materials (Bamboo, cherry blossom, some Japanese bonsai trees) with very Western materials (bay tree).”
