Two Barcham Trees sales executives are celebrating their success having been awarded foundation degrees in Arboriculture by Myerscough College. Lee Oakey and Tom Wilson have been studying on a distance learning course for the past three years, reflecting the commitment which the nursery has towards its staff in wanting them to have a greater understanding of trees and thereby offer a better service to its customers.
“With two young children, home life has sometimes been a little difficult”, admitted Lee, “and having been away from education for several years it took a while to get the right mind-set back, but I am really glad Keith Sacre (Barcham’s sales director) persuaded me to do it”. That view is echoed by Tom, who commented “Everything we covered was really useful and incredibly interesting, and it has enabled me to be more helpful with customers’ tree enquiries”.
Keith Sacre, who has himself just been awarded an MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry by Myerscough, believes Barcham Trees is unusual in the tree world in investing so much in staff training and development. “The company benefits because it gives us a better understanding of the general market in which we operate and a greater ability to help and advise those who buy from us”, he said.
