Lockdown Little Intervbiew with Rachel Pocock, VaRa Garden Design
So you’re self-isolating…who’s your favourite person to be locked up with? My 3 children (although all are nearly adults really!) – with 2 away at university I feel like I’m getting an extra bonus bit of family time now all 5 of us are home. I thought those days were gone.
Name one thing that’s changed about your daily routine that you’re going to take forward after lockdown’s over? To meal plan. It means less time spent on trips to the shops, and I use what’s at the back of the cupboard and freezer and I always know the answer to the question ‘what’s for tea?’!
How many cups of tea/coffee are you now drinking per day? Start with 1-2 coffees (proper ones!), move on to tea (1-2 cups of Yorkshire), and end the day with a peppermint tea (there seems to be an alcoholic one or two in there most days too!)
Best new Netflix/boxset series or book you’ve discovered? Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing on iPlayer. It’s a great mix of gentle calm and funny banter between comedy friends. Otherwise I’ll be re-watching Stath Lets Flats.
What do you miss most about life before lockdown? Catching up with friends whether it be for a coffee or a long run. Zoom meet ups have been really great and I’m staying local to run with my dog, although now the Pasque flowers are out on the Heath, that’s worth getting out for!
DIY vs gardening – which wins? Gardening every time.
What time is wine o’clock? Always earlier if the sun’s out!
When working from home is your background choice radio/tv/silence? BBC 6 Music all day long although I like a bit of calm classical or a Radio 4 quiz show later on. I’ve got a few podcasts I like to catch up with too. ‘Off Menu’ and ‘Now Wash your Hands’ are favourites at the moment.
In hindsight, what would you have prepared in advance (ie food/diy products etc)? Wish I’d ordered some building materials for my own garden as it’s in the middle of a big overhaul so there’s not a lot in it at the moment.
Is the government doing a good job of keeping you informed? Had a letter from Boris last week! The APL has been great at sending helpful info through and there’s links on the SGD website too.
What’s your predicted date for return to normality? We’re doing some virtual consultations and planting schemes and have projects in the design phase so we have work to do on those. Starting to implement new projects is dependent on when the landscapers can get access to supplies again. Soon we hope as long as it’s safe to do so.
Best new follow on social media? I’m trying to declutter so I’m unfollowing rather than adding!
