Mary Berry to open Blenheim Palace Flower Show in June

The Queen of British baking Mary Berry will indulge in her other great passion for gardening by opening this year’s Blenheim Palace Flower Show.

The much anticipated three-day event is set to return to the Oxfordshire stately home from 19-21 June to showcase the very best of gardening in the UK.

At the heart of the show will be a 25,000 square foot Grand Floral Marquee featuring over 40 stunning floral displays and a huge selection of plants from the UK’s finest nurseries at special event prices.

Elsewhere visitors can take a walk around the inspiring show gardens displaying breath-taking outdoor spaces by some of the UK’s finest landscape designers, browse and purchase the latest products from over 300 floral and garden exhibitors or indulge in some of the finest foods and nibbles.

While Mary’s interest in cooking led her to a career as one of the nation’s favourite cookery writers, she has a passion for growing her own culinary herbs, fruit and vegetables – so certainly knows her way around a potting shed.

Mary said: “I’m thrilled to be opening the Blenheim Palace Flower Show as gardening is a huge passion of mine. I am almost as happy in a garden as I am in a kitchen. I find it very relaxing and enjoy nothing more than cooking the produce we’ve grown. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the amazing floral displays from some of the country’s leading nurseries as well as being inspired by the fantastic show gardens.”

Matt Upson, director of show organiser Aztec Events, is delighted that Mary Berry has accepted an invitation to open the show.

He said: “The Blenheim Palace Flower Show is going from strength to strength and in just three short years it has firmly made its mark on the horticultural calendar. We already have a backdrop that rivals those offered by Chelsea or Hampton Court but to have somebody who is as popular and passionate about gardening as Mary Berry to open the show, is the icing on the cake!”

Visitors to the flower show can also visit Blenheim Palace’s inspirational World Heritage Site, which was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, free of charge.
