At Borde Hill Garden this summer one of the world’s most respected rose experts, Michael Marriott from David Austin Roses, will be providing a talk and exclusive guided tour of Borde Hill’s renowned Rose Garden on 20th June.
In June, Borde Hill’s 750 + strong rose collection will be in full bloom, filling the gardens with heavenly scent. The Rose Garden at Borde Hill has been carefully developed over the last decade. It comprises formal beds bordered by box and lavender, red brick paths and is an array of obelisks and trellises adorned with roses.
The design was carried out by gold medallist, Robin Williams in 1996 inspired by a 1902 Country Life article. It has formal and informal elements with high yew walls. This year, the rose borders have been further boosted with the addition of a range of beautifully selected herbaceous perennials. Chosen by garden designer and TV presenter Juliet Sargeant to compliment the roses’ colour and scent.
During Michael Marriott’s visit to Borde Hill, he will be speaking to guests on selecting and caring for the very best rose varieties. Then guest will be able to take a tour around the garden. Borde Hill Garden contains many of the most significant David Austin varieties including; Gertrude Jekyll, Winchester Cathedral and Graham Thomas. The Rose Garden also contains some of the most popular roses sold in the last few years in the UK including Olivia Rose Austin, Lady Emma Hamilton, Darcy Bussell, Lady of Shalott and Munstead Wood.
At its peak during the months of June and July, visitors to Borde Hill will find more than 750 plants and about 100 varieties of rose covering a spectrum of colours, from soft pink through to deep crimson and from yellow to bright red.
