Eastleigh based Miles Stone are one of the leading suppliers of landscaping materials on the South Coast. Not only are they passionate about creating dream landscapes, they also care about the people that will be creating them in years to come.
That’s why, through their partnership with Kingston Maurward College, they have decided to sponsor an Artisan garden at 2019’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show that celebrates 70 years of land-based education at KMC and has a specific focus on inspiring the students of the future. Chelsea Flower Show is an annual garden event that’s held for five days every May and show cases the best of the landscaping and flower industry. It’s perhaps the most famous garden show in the world and a truly international stage for all exhibitors.
The garden itself will represent the artisan and contemporary techniques that are taught to the KMC students through the various courses the college offers. They hope to further ensure that the younger generation are made aware of and inspired by the possibility of working within a land based industry. Charlie Davison, Head of Sales at Miles Stone had this to say…
“In our 48 years of trading we have always believed in and endeavoured to promote the importance of having alternative education avenues out of school other than heading to a conventional college. In my opinion people have always viewed vocations such as ours as something of a last resort, when in fact it’s quite the opposite. If you just look at the beautiful spaces our clients create and the ground-breaking gardens that come out of the RHS shows every year. We truly believe there is no better way to inspire young people into our industry than RHS Chelsea, just look at the list of names that regularly build or design there. There is so much youth within the ranks. I am extremely excited to see where this project goes, and hopefully we can do the industry and college proud”
This is a real passion project for all involved and you can feel the community spirit flowing through its core. Many features of the show garden have taken inspiration from elements of the grounds at Kingston Maurward College; from the hand crafted Cupola, locally sourced Purbeck stone walling and the planting inspired by various different garden areas within the college campus.
You can see the Miles Stone & Kingston Maurward Garden as well as a whole host of other beautiful projects at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, 21-25 May 2019, held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
