Millboard makes UN Global Compact pledge

Millboard is well-known in the industry as a manufacturer of beautifully crafted decking and cladding material. Environmental responsibility is at the heart of what we do, but our sense of responsibility goes further than that. Every day, we consider the impact that our actions will have on the future of life, living and livelihoods, and we strive to make choices that are fair and considerate.

This is why Millboard has been accepted as a member of the UN Global Compact. Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is a global initiative that brings business together with UN agencies to advance ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, workforce, environment and anti-corruption. Through the power of collective action, the UN Global Compact seeks to make these ten principles mainstream in business activities around the world.

The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

Millboard’s values go beyond a simple statement.  By living our values, which we encapsulate in the themes of ‘Life, Living and Livelihood’, we ensure that we meet the fundamental responsibilities reflected in the ten principles enshrined in the UN Global Compact:

Human Rights

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and

Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;

Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;

Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and

Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;

Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and

Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Part of a global force for good
Whether it’s investing in greener ways of doing things or going the extra mile to enhance our work environment, we take our Life, Living and Livelihood commitments seriously. The UN Global Compact offers a platform for businesses who share similar principles to come together in promoting sustainable and ethical practices. Millboard is proud to be a member and we encourage other like-minded companies to consider signing up: the more who do, the greater the positive impact on the whole.
