The National Federation of Builders (NFB) is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted in the training category in this year’s Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards (CCISY 14). Shortlisted for its work in supporting companies from across the region with the adoption of building information modelling (BIM), NFB Business & Skills, the training and development arm of the NFB, has worked across the supply chain to ensure that companies in South Yorkshire have been given the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and expertise required to work in BIM enabled environments.
Supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), NFB Business & Skills has worked with YORbuild, The South Yorkshire Training Group and main contractors including George Hurst & Sons and Henry Boot Construction with the development and delivery of strategic BIM programmes specifically designed to fit the needs of their organisations.
Adeana Raper, Training Adviser at Henry Boot Construction says: “We contacted the NFB as we realised we needed to up our game as far as BIM was concerned. Henry Boot Construction took part in the Exemplar Programme and our employees have also attended workshops and events organised by the NFB for industry.
“Without this intervention Henry Boot Construction would not have started the BIM journey and certainly would not be so far down the route. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the NFB for their contribution to the industry.”
NFB Business & Skills is currently delivering a national programme of BIM support, engaging with public sector clients, contractors and their supply chains to drive the adoption of BIM within the sector ahead of the 2016 government deadline for BIM level two adoption.
Karen Dawes, Training Manager at the NFB says: “BIM has been identified as a change agent that will dramatically alter the way in which public sector clients procure construction projects. The key to successful adoption is the greater integration between all members of the supply chain and a transformation of business processes to meet the demands of BIM. The position of the NFB as a trade federation within the sector has enabled us to bring clients and contractors together and develop BIM strategies that are already driving demonstrable change and delivering real results.”
The CCISY 14 Awards are held by the Chartered Institute of Building’s Sheffield & South Yorkshire Centre and is the region’s premier construction event. The Awards showcase the professionalism, excellence and innovation that are at the heart of South Yorkshire’s construction community. This year’s event will be held at Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield on October 10 2014.
