‘New Horizons’ garden wins Silver Gilt at RHS Hampton 2016

Stonemarket has announced that the ‘New Horizons’ City Garden it donated products to at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show has won a Silver Gilt award.

The garden, which was designed by Guildford-based Beautiful Borders Garden Design and installed by landscaper Mark Nelson, was created for a ‘young’ retired couple who are downsizing their living space.

The beautiful garden included an Art Nouveau-inspired pergola of blue cranes and stained glass windows to add year-round colour, which paid homage to the client’s native home of South Africa. The emphasis was on providing summer colour with minimal maintenance, and encouraging drought-resistant plants which would thrive in our increasingly warm climate.

The designer and landscaper met at the Stonemarket Road Show in Epsom, where they decided to work together on the project, and are both members of the Stonemarket Garden Designer and Landscaper Networks.

Garden Designer Lisa Niemy from Beautiful Borders said: “The stone was absolutely perfect for the garden, and was exceptionally received. We were so pleased with the garden.

“The colour provided the perfect backdrop for the plants, and the Avant-garde stone was so tactile it really encouraged you to sit on the benches. It is truly beautiful, and I thank Stonemarket for their kind donation to the garden.”

Stonemarket donated Avant-garde Imperial natural stone for the project, which was a bespoke order from India, and was used as circle features, steps, a bench and copings on the walls. Avant-garde paving is cut from a high quality, ethically sourced Quartzitic sandstone, which adds a contemporary feel to any garden.

Beautiful Borders specialises in garden design and planting. Lisa Niemy specialises in plants, and how to use them creatively in a variety of spaces and soil types, and won an RHS Gold medal last year at BBC Gardeners World Live. Darren Lincoln is a design specialist with a background in surveying, and Wendy Forster-Scorgie is an experienced horticulturalist who enjoys creating beautiful colour palettes.
