by | 24 Oct 23 | Domestic Landscaping, Nature & Biodiversity, News

The RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) has announced the UK Overall Winner of the Britain in Bloom competition 2023.

Out of 44 community gardening groups across 12 categories, Newcastle-under Lyme has been awarded the accolade of Overall Winner.

The Staffordshire group was recognised for its contribution to improving the town’s carbon neutrality with the planting of 850 lime trees as well as other native broadleaf trees, as part of a commemorative forest.

Judges made particular note of the group’s work with local groups, residents and school children to plant almost 10k trees across the borough.

“Newcastle-under-Lyme showed great vision and purpose. Concern for the environment and encouraging wildlife is at the heart of everything they do,” says Darren Share, Chair of the RHS Britain in Bloom judges.

The gardening group also achieved a gold medal in the Small City Category.
